Warnings and Important NJ Pool and Spa Updates
Every Parents Worst Nightmare
Please make sure your bottom drain cover is up to code for children's safety!

The Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool & Spa Safety Act or VGB Law was passed by the United States Congress in December of 2007. This law was inspired by the 2002 accidental drowning death of 7 year old Virginia Graeme Baker who died as a result of becoming stuck to a faulty drain cover. Virginia Graeme Baker was also the granddaughter of former US Secretary of State James Baker III. This law was created to prevent accidental drain entrapments and eviscerations in pools and spas.

The VGB legislation mandates that all pools and spas are required to have ASME/ANSI A11 19.8-2007 compliant drain covers.
Bottom drain entrapment is the result of a swimmers hair, limbs, body, or clothing becoming entangled in a faulty or flat drain cover or grate. The best way to make sure entrapment does not occur is to install a brand new VGB compliant drain cover and inspect your drain cover regularly.

If your drain cover is 7 years old or older, you MUST change it immediately. Sunlight and chemicals weaken the plastic overtime.

If you have an old, flat drain cover, you MUST replace it immediately to a VGB Compliant Cover. Please contact ABCO Pool Patch before you use your pool: 732-616-5853. No need to DRAIN your pool!
